Session 1:

Comply/Defy – Unpacking the problematic PhD context

Thursday January 13th 2022 - 1.30pm-2.30pm

In the first session, ‘Comply/defy’ we interrogate the invisible conventions and realise the inherent tensions in the PhD programme. For example, we do have to comply with norms and forms in order to remain on the programme, but we need to interrogate and tease apart how this infrastructure affects our writing. After all, our context affects how we behave, think and feel.

Understanding and questioning the power structure enables us to navigate the dominant norms and forms YOUR way, making it work for you.

We share our empowering vocabulary, and impart a framework based on rhetoric and self-care to help you work through the barriers to high stakes academic writing.

Session 2:

Is it me? - Strategies and Takeaways

Tuesday January 25th 2022 - 1.30pm-2.30pm

In this second session, ‘Is it me?’, we discuss how as individuals and in groups we can change how we address the barriers of high stakes academic writing, discussed in the first session.
